The park rangers discovered the new born baby during the check outs of gorillas in the jungle on 2nd September 2020.
The baby has been born to Nshuti the adult female gorilla in Nyakagezi gorilla family. Nshuti is well known for being humble and friendly to all visitors. The word Nshuti in Kinyarwanda language means peace.
Nyakagyezi is the one and only gorilla family located in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and other 16 gorilla families are located in Bwindi Impenetrable national park in western part of Uganda in virunga conservation area
Despite the fact that gorillas move from one place to another, Hirwa gorilla family in Rwanda moved to Uganda and settled in Mgahinga national park in 2019 for about 8 months which attracted visitors in Uganda thus developing the tourism industry in both Rwanda and Uganda. The Hirwa Group moved back to Rwanda and the Nyakagezi Family remains the only habituated gorilla family within the Mgahinga National Park.
