Day 1: Pickup from Kigali
Pickup from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Go for a brief Kigali City Tour. Explore the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, Caplaki Market for souvenirs. Travel north of Kigali to Volcanoes National Park. Have a stopover at the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Rubondo.
Your drive will take you through the triangular peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. Cross to Uganda via the Cyanika Border. Tonight you will sleep to the sounds of the mountain rainforest.
Overnight at Amajambere Camp (Budget) / Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge or Kisoro Travelers Rest (Midrange) / Ikoro Hotel or Mount Gahinga Lodge (Luxury)
Day 2 Gorilla Tracking
Early morning, you will enter the Gorilla sanctuary of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the rain tropical forest covering the hills of the three surrounding Virunga Volcanoes. The trekking is a demanding but rewarding experience. The hike is rated to be Moderate. Ensure you bring with you enough water and the packed lunch. The time spent in the forest depends on the movements of the gorillas in their natural environments. Upon meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to 1 hour to watch the great apes in the wild. After the activity, you will return back to the park headquarters for your certificate. Travel back to Kigali. Drop off at the hotel or airport.
