Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) has won the Greatest Wildlife Encounter Award for 2010. According to the UK based publication, The Lonely Planet magazine, the Awards were voted for by a community of travelers in the UK who use the website, read the “Lonely Planet” magazine and buy our guide books.
The Lonely Planet awards  the voters were given a shortlist of 10 experiences to choose from that had been chosen by the panel of Lonely Planet Judges, these experiences included:

  • The ‘big five’ (lions, rhino, Cape buffalo, African elephants and leopards) in Kenya
  • Giant tortoises on Alcedo Volcano, Isabela, the Galapagos Islands
  • Orang-utans high in the jungle canopy in Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia
  • Polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
  • Tigers in the Sundarbans Tiger Reserve, West Bengal, India
  • Dragons on Komodo Island, Indonesia
  • Grey whales in Baja California, Mexico
  • Koalas by the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
  • Puffins in Pembrokeshire, Wales
